Principal, Janet L. Layne
principal

Mrs. Layne has 19 years experience in education. She taught for 11 years in grades 1-3 and 5-8 and served as assistant principal for three years at Tracy City Elementary in Grundy County.

She served as principal at Swiss Memorial during the 2002-2003 school year and then became the system-wide Testing Coordinator and Supervisor or Curriculum/Instruction PK-12 for Grundy County Schools from 2003-2006. Mrs. Layne has been the principal at MES since 2006.

Mrs. Layne was the Tennessee D.A.R.E. Educational Trainer from 2000-2003 and was responsible for training police officers in educational pedagogy internationally. She is a Member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor society for women in education that demonstrate leadership skills. She recently earned her Ed.S degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN.

Mrs. Layne is married to Russell and they have one daughter, Olivia.

Welcome to the Monteagle Elementary School web site.  Monteagle Elementary has been in operation since the early 1900’s.  A new addition and a complete renovation of the old part of the building was completed in 2004.  Two additional classrooms and the expansion of the cafeteria occurred during the summer of 2007. Monteagle Elementary School is a SACS accredited school with approximately 325 students in grades PK-8.  We have high standards as well as high achievement scores in all grades.  MES provides art, PE, character education, and computer classes for all students in addition to all the academic subjects.  Extra curricular programs include basketball, National Junior Honor Society, art club,civics club, 4-H, student council and a math club.  We are an integral part of the Monteagle community and welcome visitors and volunteers at the school.
