SPES Curriculum

South Pittsburg Elementary School is a pre-k through sixth grade school.We are proud of our comprehensive curriculum. Grades K-3 are self contained classrooms. Grades 4-6 are departmentalized. In the lower grades special education students are included in the classroom for academics. An assistant is in the classroom to help the teachers differentiate instruction for these students.

The new Tennessee State Standards are supported by Harcourt Reading, Saxon Math, Glencoe-McGraw-Hill Science in grades 4,5,6, Nancy Larson Science in 1,2,3,McGraw-Hill Social Studies, and Saxon Phonics in K and 1.We also use AIMS WEBB for progress monitoring in K-3.We use Accelerated Reader and Brain Pop to enhance our reading and math skills in the computer lab.

In addition to to the core subjects, a related arts program consisting of music,art,library,physical education,computer lab, and guidance are provided. These classes are attended by students once a week.

Homework help is provided every morning through extended contract money, and an after school program is available
