Happy New Year and Welcome Back
We hope everyone had a nice holiday and is well.  We had a lot of sickness during December. The No Child Left Behind Law requires schools to maintain a 93 percent attendance rate. Because of the sickness our attendance rate has dropped. Please make sure your child is here, if he/she is not sick, so that we can build our attendance back up. Please make sure your child is here on time and try to avoid early dismissals, if possible. We appreciate your cooperation.
If you have had a change in address or phone number, please be sure to let the school know.
Our teachers will really be concentrating on getting your child ready for the Terra Nova test in the spring. These are important for your child and for the school. Please help us in getting your child to work hard and concentrate on his/her studies during these next few months.

Supplies
Parents, please send new crayons, pencils and notebook paper with your child this week. Students who use colored pencils and washable markers may also need new ones. Please check with your child’s teacher to see what supplies are needed. Having the necessary supplies on hand saves so much time. Thanks for your support.
Tutoring
Tutoring is available to all students in the mornings starting at 7:00. Mrs. K. Nelson, Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Raulston are offering this service to students who need additional help. Please have your child use this service if they need help in any of their school work.

Basketball
We will be beginning our 2009-10 basketball season during January.  Our teams have already started practicing.  Our basketball games will go through the month of February with tournaments in March.  We hope that everyone will come and support our Pirates.

Eyeglasses for the Lions Club
Please send any old prescription eyeglasses to our school office for the South Pittsburg Lions Club.  The Lions strive to work with those who need help to have better vision.  This is a wonderful work, so, if you know of any old prescription glasses that people are not using anymore, please bring them in.
